5 Commonly Asked Questions About Veneers

Veneers is a common cosmetic dental procedure that is used to help patients improve their smiles. Not every patient is a candidate for teeth whitening and veneers can also help in these cases. Here are 5 commonly asked questions about veneers if you are considering this cosmetic procedure in order to correct your smile.

    What Are Veneers Used for?

Veneers are designed to restore the appearance and shape of teeth that are uneven, discolored or chipped. For teeth imperfections, veneers can be used to hide unsightly tooth malformations or cracks. They can also be used to fill in the gaps if the spaces between your teeth if they are uneven. For discoloration, veneers can help to improve the look of your smile.

    Who Is Eligible for Veneers?

In order to be eligible to receive veneers, you must meet certain criteria. First, your teeth must be healthy and free from decay. You shouldn’t have gum disease either. Patients that have bite alignment problems, or habitually clench or grind their teeth are not eligible for this procedure. You must also have sufficiently healthy tooth enamel in order to support the veneers. A dentist can evaluate your mouth in order to determine whether or not you make a good candidate for veneers. Every procedure is customized to the unique needs of each patient. Scheduling a consultation with a dentist is the step to finding out if veneers are right for you.

What Are Veneers Made From?Veneers Hammond, LA

Veneers can be made from several materials. Veneers are thin porcelain or resin composite shells that are designed to cover the damage to your natural teeth. Composite veneers are made from a resin that is shaped and then hardened using a high intensity light. Porcelain veneers are made from porcelain using a mold created from an impression of your teeth.

How Much Do They Cost and How Long Do They Last?

Porcelain veneers are generally more expensive than composite veneers. Porcelain veneers can cause several thousand dollars per tooth. However they are designed to last up to 15 years while composite veneers last on average from 5 to 7 years. Composite veneers generally cost a few hundred dollars per tooth. How long your veneers last will also depend on how well you care for them.

What Foods Should You Avoid When You Have Veneers?

Veneers are designed to be stain and discoloration resistant. However, after your permanent veneers are in place, there are certain foods that you should avoid if you want your veneers to last. Hard foods, dark liquids and alcohol are just a few items that should be avoided. Avoiding alcohol is particularly important because it can cause damage to the bonding material of porcelain veneers. If you eat any of the foods that you have been advised to avoid, you should make sure that you brush and rinse directly after consuming the food to prevent damage.

    Get Regular Dental Checkups

To protect your veneers over the long term, you need to develop an effective oral care routine. Your daily regime should include brushing and flossing. Schedule regular checkups with your dentist so that a dentist can detect any issues as soon as possible. With proper care, your veneers can last for years to come.

I found the right orthodontist for me here in Hammond, LA here at this dental facility. When it comes to oral health, I really want the best and I really did search the city for the best ortho for me. When I got here, I am so happy and relieved that I finally found the one for me. She was very attentive and she made me feel very comfortable. The treatment is also very effective and now I have straight, white teeth!

THE DENTISTS AND STAFF ARE AMAZING! I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years because my last visit was so traumatizing. Recently my tooth broke and another was fractured due to me constantly grinding them in my sleep. I couldn't have wished for better service. They were so nice and kind to me. The dentist kept me informed of everything that was going on while she was doing it. The office was really clean and comfortable. I even got a call a few days later to see how I was doing and was informed that I could come in for a follow up appointment to check the healing process free of charge! I would definitely recommend them and will be going back on a regular basis. Extremely satisfied customer....Donna Evans
