Find Out the Facts About Dental Implants and a Functional Mouth

Broken and missing teeth have an impact on how the mouth functions. They also become evident when a person smiles, speaks, and eats. In the past, a person’s options were limited to crowns, bridges, and dentures. Now dental implants give people another choice. Find out the facts about dental implants and getting a functional mouth.

    What Are Dental Implants?

When they are done correctly, dental implants look and work much like regular teeth. The implants must be placed in a strong jawbone. If the bone needs restoration, grafting techniques can be used. In the best circumstances, there is little or no bone loss for proper positioning of the implant.

An experienced dental surgically positions the implants, which are made from titanium and act as artificial roots. The implants must fuse into the jawbone by healing for a few weeks. Implant crowns are then permanently placed on the implants. The crowns are carefully fabricated to look natural and function much like the patient’s original teeth.

How Do Patients Get Dental Implants?

The process begins with a dentist who can assess your general dental health and refer you to a specialist, if necessary. A complete exam is done to determine your overall oral and dental condition. The dentist will review the implant process with a patient as well as implant options. The patient is told all about the benefits, risks, and alternatives. If the patient decides to get dental implants, a consent form is signed by the patient.

Each aspect of the procedure is explained to the patients, ranging from surgery to healing to eating habits during the process of getting implants. Following the instructions provided by the dentist is imperative to the patient’s health and overall outcome of the procedure. Those with low bone density may face additional challenges but can still get functional dental implants. As a result, the timing differs for each patient from start to finish. It can take two to four months to get dental implants.

    The Benefits of Dental Implants

If a patient has multiple missing teeth, dentures are a common option. Unfortunately, they can slip or shift in a person’s mouth, making it awkward to eat or speak. Dental implants are permanent and stable so patients never deal with these inconveniences. Bridges need to be attached to teeth on either size of the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth. No adjacent teeth need to be prepared for dental implants. Plus, dental implants are a good option for those who cannot get bridges or dentures because of gagging, poor ridges, and soreness.

Keep in mind, dental implants are usually more costly than dentures or bridges. Additionally, insurance companies usual cover less than 10 percent of the costs associated with getting dental implants. Some people may have access to financing options to make it easier to consider getting this tooth replacement procedure.

    Maintaining Dental Implants

Bridges and dentures require special cleaning procedures. However, dental implants are maintained much like natural teeth. A person with dental implants must brush and floss daily. Annual dental exams must be schedule to check the condition of the patient’s teeth and gums. This makes dental implants easier to maintain than other tooth replacement options.

Dental implants are a permanent solution for people with broken, missing or damaged teeth. People enjoy the convenience of having teeth that do not need removal or special procedures to maintain. Additionally, dental implants are comfortable and attractive. People can eat, speak, and smile with total confidence when they get dental implants. A skilled dentist can determine if dental implants are a good solution for you.

I found the right orthodontist for me here in Hammond, LA here at this dental facility. When it comes to oral health, I really want the best and I really did search the city for the best ortho for me. When I got here, I am so happy and relieved that I finally found the one for me. She was very attentive and she made me feel very comfortable. The treatment is also very effective and now I have straight, white teeth!

THE DENTISTS AND STAFF ARE AMAZING! I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years because my last visit was so traumatizing. Recently my tooth broke and another was fractured due to me constantly grinding them in my sleep. I couldn't have wished for better service. They were so nice and kind to me. The dentist kept me informed of everything that was going on while she was doing it. The office was really clean and comfortable. I even got a call a few days later to see how I was doing and was informed that I could come in for a follow up appointment to check the healing process free of charge! I would definitely recommend them and will be going back on a regular basis. Extremely satisfied customer....Donna Evans
