How Do I Handle a Hammond Dental Emergency?

Most people have faced a dental emergency. The pain is so severe you are unable to think, sleep, or focus. Or the excessive bleeding won’t stop and you fear it will continue throughout the rest of the day or night. Often dental problems occur gradually but the pain can be sudden and serious. What is a Hammond dental emergency and how do you handle it?

Discover these 7 certain situations that require Hammond dental treatment immediately.

    A Broken Tooth

Did you bite into a hard piece of bread and leave part of your tooth behind? Or were you watching your son’s volleyball game and a ball hit you in the mouth, causing your front tooth to break? These are definitely dental emergencies. A cracked or broken tooth can be very painful and bloody. Contact the dentist right away. Rinse your mouth with warm water. Put a cold compress on the outer affected area to try to reduce any swelling and discomfort.

    A Loose or Wiggly Tooth

Serious hits to the mouth or biting down hard are two common reasons why a tooth can become loose or dislodged. Sometimes a gum infection or decay can also cause a tooth to get loose and painful. If your tooth is dislodged, it’s time to call the dentist right away. Visiting a dentist immediately might help save the tooth. Until you get to the dentist, apply a cold compress to the area to alleviate pain. You can also take over-the-counter pain relievers.

    A Tooth Gets Knocked Out

A hard fall on the pavement or other circumstances may cause a tooth to get knocked out. Often this is a very painful experience and requires the immediate assistance of a dentist. The lost tooth should be rinsed off if it got dirty. Sometimes it can be temporarily placed in the socket. Or the tooth can be put into milk to preserve it until you get to the emergency dental appointment.

    A Lost Crown or Filling

When you get a filling or crown, it provides instant relief from a cavity or compromised tooth. If the filling or crown falls out, it can make your mouth feel sensitive and uncomfortable. Call your dentist right away to make an appointment. Find out if you can get a topical relief product or over-the-counter dental cement to minimize the discomfort until you get to the dentist’s office for a checkup.

    Extreme Swelling

If your mouth starts to swell and feel painful, it is important to contact your dentist to make an appointment as soon as possible. An abscess is often the cause of this swelling. The pus that forms can lead to an infection throughout your system making you feel ill. For this reason, dental swelling should be considered an emergency situation. Rinsing with warm salt water can provide some temporary relief.

    Throbbing Toothache

Sometimes people experience a dull pain in a tooth from decay or infection. In other instances, people experience a sharp, throbbing toothache with no relief from the pain. This is when a dentist should be called right away. If a toothache makes it impossible to function normally, it could mean there is an infection that requires quick care and treatment from a dentist.

Other Issues That May Require Emergency Attention

Certain other issues may require emergency dental attention, such as a broken jaw or something stuck between your teeth that becomes painful or impossible to remove with dental floss.

When in doubt, contact a Hammond dentist for an emergency appointment. Some dental problems can become life-threatening if they are left unattended. It is always better to err on the side of caution and be safe rather than sorry when it comes to dental discomfort and problems.

I found the right orthodontist for me here in Hammond, LA here at this dental facility. When it comes to oral health, I really want the best and I really did search the city for the best ortho for me. When I got here, I am so happy and relieved that I finally found the one for me. She was very attentive and she made me feel very comfortable. The treatment is also very effective and now I have straight, white teeth!

I was advised to see an orthodontist to correct my bite. I am glad I saw your website and read some of the reviews. By reading those customers testimonials, I decided to go visit your dentist and I am not disappointed by the service you have given me. Added factors are the place is clean and well maintained.

THE DENTISTS AND STAFF ARE AMAZING! I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years because my last visit was so traumatizing. Recently my tooth broke and another was fractured due to me constantly grinding them in my sleep. I couldn't have wished for better service. They were so nice and kind to me. The dentist kept me informed of everything that was going on while she was doing it. The office was really clean and comfortable. I even got a call a few days later to see how I was doing and was informed that I could come in for a follow up appointment to check the healing process free of charge! I would definitely recommend them and will be going back on a regular basis. Extremely satisfied customer....Donna Evans

I undergone dental implant here. They offered me their Implant package that I cannot say no to. It helped me save money. If they did not tell me about it I would not know. Thank you for informing me!
