    Pregnancy and Hammond Dental Care

During pregnancy, women have many details to consider. This includes everything from medical appointments to mothering choices to designing the nursery. With all this to keep track of, it can be challenging to fit dental care into the busy schedule. Pregnant women face unique dental care concerns, and it is also important to maintain regular Hammond dental appointments for optimum well-being.

Oral Health is Connected to Overall Health

Ongoing research has revealed the meaningful connection between good oral health and maintaining the best possible overall health. A pregnant woman wants to be healthy to help ensure her baby is healthy. Pregnancy is an important time in a woman’s life. And it is safe to get a dental checkup, cleanings, and get cavities filled before the baby is born. After all, life is sure to get even busier after the birth of a baby.

    Full Disclosure Matters

Let your dentist know when you are pregnant and how far along you are during the exam. Make sure to share medications and advice given by your regular doctor. Women facing a high-risk pregnancy might be advised to delay certain dental treatments. Full disclosure to your dentist and doctor is important to get the right advice.

Pregnancy and Your Teeth and Gums

During pregnancy, women experience various hormonal changes. As a result, they can develop inflamed gums that are tender and swollen. This condition can be referred to as pregnancy gingivitis. Another sign of it is bleeding when brushing and flossing. The dentist might add more cleanings to your schedule to ward off the possibility of gum disease.

    Checking for Cavities

Being pregnant means getting morning sickness and nausea for many women. This means your mouth is getting filled with more acid than usual. This wears away at the tooth enamel and can leave women more susceptible to getting cavities during pregnancy. Plus, women who give in to cravings for sweets and carbohydrates can also increase their risk of developing cavities. If you have cavities, it is acceptable for the dentist to put a protective vest over you and take a quick x-ray. The cavity can be filled when you are pregnant to stop decay right away.

    Brush, Floss, and Rinse

Keeping up with pregnancy appointments, vitamins, and increased fatigue often means women forget to brush and floss. Make sure to add brushing twice a day to your routine and floss at least once daily. Use an oral rinse to get what you might miss due to tiredness or distraction. Get your teeth checked during pregnancy to ensure you are keeping up with proper oral hygiene. A professional dental cleaning can help protect your teeth during a time when you might not be brushing and flossing as efficiently as usual.

What About Having a Filling or Extraction?

If it is necessary to get a cavity filled or have a tooth extracted, both procedures can usually be done during pregnancy. Also, you can take numbing medications as recommended by your dentist and doctor. These numbing agents are typically safe for both the mother and baby. This means there is no need to put off essential dental treatment that could later cause oral pain during your pregnancy. Fortunately, pregnant women can alleviate this cause of physical discomfort.

Pregnant women should maintain regular dental appointments. Getting your teeth checked helps to keep you in the best possible health. Have routine procedures done in accordance with the recommendations of your doctor and dentist. Remember to brush and floss regularly to reduce the risk of cavities. If you have concerns about your dental hygiene, discuss them with your dentist and find out about scheduling additional teeth cleaning treatments.

I found the right orthodontist for me here in Hammond, LA here at this dental facility. When it comes to oral health, I really want the best and I really did search the city for the best ortho for me. When I got here, I am so happy and relieved that I finally found the one for me. She was very attentive and she made me feel very comfortable. The treatment is also very effective and now I have straight, white teeth!

I was advised to see an orthodontist to correct my bite. I am glad I saw your website and read some of the reviews. By reading those customers testimonials, I decided to go visit your dentist and I am not disappointed by the service you have given me. Added factors are the place is clean and well maintained.

THE DENTISTS AND STAFF ARE AMAZING! I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years because my last visit was so traumatizing. Recently my tooth broke and another was fractured due to me constantly grinding them in my sleep. I couldn't have wished for better service. They were so nice and kind to me. The dentist kept me informed of everything that was going on while she was doing it. The office was really clean and comfortable. I even got a call a few days later to see how I was doing and was informed that I could come in for a follow up appointment to check the healing process free of charge! I would definitely recommend them and will be going back on a regular basis. Extremely satisfied customer....Donna Evans
