Hammond Dental Care Treatment for Teeth and Gums

Gum and bone disease are caused initially by plaque and tooth decay is caused by the combination of plaque, bacteria, and sugar.  Plaque begins to build up on your teeth within 20 minutes after eating.  This is why it is very important that you brush your teeth after each meal.  If your teeth are not cleaned properly each day, the plaque left on the tooth surfaces and gums will turn into tartar over time and begin to destroy the bone surrounding the teeth.  The roots of teeth are supported by the underlying bone.  So, if you start to lose too much bone surrounding the teeth, you can eventually lose your teeth!

Seeking appropriate dental care can help you prevent gum and teeth problems.  By having your teeth routinely cleaned by a hygienist and examined by the dentist, gum and bone disease can be prevented. Professional cleanings include removing plaque and tartar surrounding the teeth and gums.  Various dental instruments are used to help loosen and remove the plaque and tartar deposits surrounding the teeth and gums. Here at Advanced Dental Concepts, we offer proper oral care to help you achieve healthy teeth and gums.

Routine exams typically involve dental x-rays and camera photos.  These tools allow us to detect and prevent any dental problems from occurring or worsening.

You should also watch out for symptoms of gum disease:

  • Red or swollen gums
  • Gum bleeds when you brush your teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Loose teeth

Oral Health Vigilance

Scared and unsure about the state of your teeth or gums? Here are some things you need to do regularly:

Floss regularly

Most people believe that all they have to do is brush twice a day to have good teeth and gums. Don’t forget though that there are small particles of food and even plaque that get stuck in between the gaps of your teeth that your toothbrush bristles can’t reach! The only way to get that out is by flossing.

Use a mouthwash

It doesn’t just mask bad breath but it also reduces the amount of bad bacteria in your mouth. The combination of plaque, sugar, and bacteria causes tooth decay (cavities). So, if you reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth, then you can reduce the risk of getting cavities. You also reduce the risk of getting gum or bone disease by using a good mouthwash.

Check with your dentist

Seeing your dentist every six months can help you keep your oral health in check. The dentist checks your teeth and gums after every cleaning visit. By having routine dental visits, the dentist can evaluate your dental condition and help you prevent oral and dental problems or even stop an existing dental issue from spreading to your gums, teeth, and the rest of your oral cavity. Your dentist will also show you ways on how to maintain your oral health.”
