Non-Surgical Treatments in Hammond, only at Advanced Dental Concepts

Gum disease has become one of the most common dental issues that plague a lot of people from teens to adults. Luckily, there are treatments that have been developed to treat them using surgery. However, the disease still persists. The cause of gum disease was determined to be a result of a bacterial infection in the early 80s. Thus, came the development of non-surgical therapy.

Treating Gum Disease in Two Ways

Periodontal or gum disease can be treated surgically and non-surgically. A majority of patients can be treated non-surgically disease is discovered and treated before it becomes too severe. But it still boils down to your local dentists. They will check the health status of your gums and determine the right treatment or talk you through the process.

What Happens If I Go a Non-Surgical Approach?

There are two types of appointments involved in a non-surgical gum treatment. These are active therapy and a re-evaluation appointment. The former consists of measuring the gums to determine the severity of the disease as well as root planing and scaling of the teeth to promote healing, protection to fight bacteria and instructions to maintain health at home. The latter is performed a month after the final active appointment. This involves measuring the amount of improvement acquired from the previous procedure, assess remaining problem areas, and discuss the possible alternatives for maintaining gum health.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling removes calculus and plaque from the teeth and below the gum line while root planing is responsible for smoothing root surfaces so that the tissues supporting the gum can reattach better to the surface of the tooth. This is often done with local anesthesia.

Antibiotics

In addition to scaling and root planing procedures, a pill is given to the patient to help eliminate harmful bacteria or a type of oil or an antibiotic powder can be applied directly to the affected area. Dentists can also prescribe an antibacterial mouth rinse to help control bacterial plaque.

How Does Non-Surgical Gum Therapy Works?

The procedure removes calculus and plaque by controlling the growth of bacteria and treating the conditions that will lead to gum disease. Some patients might need additional procedures such as replacing worn crowns or fillings with overhanging margins since this can accumulate plaque.

When left untreated, periodontal disease has been linked to:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Depression
  • Stroke
  • Heart disease

I found the right orthodontist for me here in Hammond, LA here at this dental facility. When it comes to oral health, I really want the best and I really did search the city for the best ortho for me. When I got here, I am so happy and relieved that I finally found the one for me. She was very attentive and she made me feel very comfortable. The treatment is also very effective and now I have straight, white teeth!

THE DENTISTS AND STAFF ARE AMAZING! I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years because my last visit was so traumatizing. Recently my tooth broke and another was fractured due to me constantly grinding them in my sleep. I couldn't have wished for better service. They were so nice and kind to me. The dentist kept me informed of everything that was going on while she was doing it. The office was really clean and comfortable. I even got a call a few days later to see how I was doing and was informed that I could come in for a follow up appointment to check the healing process free of charge! I would definitely recommend them and will be going back on a regular basis. Extremely satisfied customer....Donna Evans

I was advised to see an orthodontist to correct my bite. I am glad I saw your website and read some of the reviews. By reading those customers testimonials, I decided to go visit your dentist and I am not disappointed by the service you have given me. Added factors are the place is clean and well maintained.

Very pleasant visit... No wait time at all, they saw me right when my scheduled appointment was, and I was in and out of the office for a cleaning in less than a half hour total. Very professional!
