The Basic Beauty of Cosmetic Dentistry
Get The Smile You Are Dreaming Of
Over the past century, dentistry has evolved rapidly. The introduction of advanced technologies and state-of-the-art materials has made it possible to transform any type of smile into a fabulous one. Discover the basic beauty of cosmetic dentistry and how it can give anyone the Hollywood smile he or she is dreaming of.
Dramatic Teeth Whitening
Teeth face ongoing wear and tear. Sometimes the issues are simple to fix, such as discolored teeth from tea, wine, and other external elements. Teeth whitening can whiten teeth by several shades. This painless process is performed in the dentist’s office. In just one or two treatments, people can see a visible difference in how white their teeth are.
Composite Fillings Blend in With Your Teeth
In the past, most fillings were made of silver amalgam. This meant fillings would be visible. A cavity needs to be filled to avoid further decay and possible gum disease and tooth loss. Silver amalgam was protective but now there is a more attractive option. Composite fillings are the same color as your teeth, so they blend into your mouth. The dentist can match the color of your teeth for incredible results. These fillings can also be bonded to the tooth to fix cracks and chips for permanent restoration that should last for years.
Transform Teeth with Porcelain Veneers
Another advance in cosmetic dentistry is porcelain veneers. These thin, tooth-colored shells can be affixed to the front of teeth to fix chipped, cracked, misaligned, and discolored teeth. The dentist fits them to the front of the teeth for a uniform smile that anyone would be proud to show off. Usually, this process takes two or three appointments. During the first visit, the dentist will prepare the patient’s teeth for the veneers and choose a suitable shade. At the second appointment, the veneers are permanently affixed to the teeth and then polished. The results are amazing.
Rebuild Teeth with Porcelain Crowns
A root canal, fracture or progressive decay can compromise the structure of a tooth, making it weak and susceptible to loss. Porcelain crowns can be used to cover the tooth and make it stronger. The crown is matched to your natural tooth color. A mold of your tooth is taken to have a crown created at a lab. In a couple of weeks, the crown is ready to be permanently affixed into your mouth. In the meantime, a temporary crown is put on to protect the weakened tooth.
Making a Bridge
If a patient has one or more missing teeth, the gap can be filled in with a porcelain bridge. The teeth on either side of the miss tooth or teeth are covered with crowns. An artificial tooth is affixed between these crowns. Multiple teeth can be replaced with a bridge as long as there are adjourning teeth to anchor them. This process involves a few office visits to make a mold, get the bridge from the lab, and put it into the patient’s mouth. A temporary bridge can be worn in the meantime until the permanent bridge can be cemented into the patient’s mouth.
Another possible solution for missing teeth is a dental implant. These are affixed into the gums, as long as the patient has the jaw structure to support them. Implants are a permanent solution that works and looks much like natural teeth. This process can take several appointments and a few months to complete. The alternative for people with multiple missing teeth is dentures. Unlike dentures, implants do not get removed. They become a permanent part of the mouth and are cared for much like natural teeth. Dentures are more affordable but must be taken out and require special cleaning.
